The Dorado 584 utilizes the same function and format as the 544 with the addition of a keypad. This feature provides an additional layer of security by linking the card to the assigned card holder. The keypad housing is weatherproofed for outdoor installations.

Both readers feature upward insertion from the bottom of the case to minimize the effects of dust, water, debris, and vandalism. They are available in either black or white with a bicolor LED (red/green) to indicate card read status.

The HID Dorado magentic stripe security card is a low-cost token that can double as a photo identification badge by using a dye sublimation direct print version of the card. The cards can be triple encoded on separate tracks to allow use of the security cards for cafeteria, vending, or parking check-out. This feature will permit different expiration dates to be assigned for unrelated transactions. Card encoding and photo ID badging can be done at the customer's site or at the local dealer's facility when volume may not justify the cost of purchasing the encoding devices.
